Modernism in British, American and Spanish Literature
My primary research focus is modernism in British, American, and Spanish literature, particularly examining interactions between British, American, and Spanish writers during the early twentieth century.
I am especially focused on Federico García Lorca, particularly the influence of his 1929-1930 trip to New York on his writing. Additionally, I am interested in the Harlem Renaissance's overall impact.
Literature's influence during this period from the visual arts, especially surrealism, is another interest of mine.

American Literature
I am interested in how American literature's themes of discovery, especially surrounding the American West, were reinterpreted in modern literature. I am also fascinated by the relationship between the visual arts and American literature as well as the impact of the Spanish Civil War on American writers and the Harlem Renaissance. I'm especially interested in the mountains, American West, and Mojave Desert in modern American literature. As a rock climber, I'm interested in twentieth (and twenty-first) century mountaineering literature as it's influenced by and influences other American literature.
